A dealer from whom you have purchased a vehicle can provide you with a temporary paper license plate to be used only until the permanent license plate is received. Â Â In other words, few temporary tags or paper license plates are legitimate. The fake tags are used to evade tolls, payment of insurance, registration and inspection fees and to avoid identification during the commission of crimes. Â For these reasons, there is a police initiative to investigate vehicles driven with temporary paper license plates.
Drivers with temporary paper license plates can be charged with a misdemeanor crime for possessing a forged instrument and uninsured, unregistered and uninspected operation of a motor vehicle,   This can subject the accused to jail time, fines, license suspension, a civil penalty and increased auto insurance.
